and try to look curvy,” finance senior Alla Mikhalevsky tells business administration sophomore Sam Hodge as she helps him adjust his cleavage. This is Hodge’s first time to participate in the drag show, but he is confident in the tall, blonde and leggy figure he cuts as “Krystal Shanda Lear.” Eight others participated in this year’s event, which raised money for the Resource Center of Dallas, an AIDS-focused charity, through pre-show fundraising by contestants and donations. Ticket sales along brought in more than $1,500, according to Nick Hinojosa, business administration junior and last year’s drag show winner. The evening was divided into four segments in which the ladies competed: presentation, evening wear, Q&A and talent. Randi Mogul, Residential Life coordinator and one of the four judges, said all the events are fun, but it’s in the talent portion that contestants really let their hair down. Lacy Alexander, a charity drag performer and guest judge, said it is simple to dress as a woman: All one needs is about four and a half hours, a pair of tights, foam rubber and a lot of hairspray.
Alexander said she was looking for something different from a winner.
