Portage Schools Jump High For Charity 2009: Proud Division

“I am so proud of our division because this is quite the event.
When you look at the division, and you see the fact that they raised $38,500 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, it is a point of pride for us that through the support of staff, students, faculty, family and the community as a whole, the division was able to raise a large sum for this worthy cause,” stated Barrett. “Simply by the amount that was raised, you can see the level of dedication that each school committed to this event. Anything that gets the kids this involved is certainly a worthy pursuit.”
Out of the eight schools that did participate, one was a Hutterian school. According to the principal of Brennan School, Elma Maendel, the event was less about raising money and more about keeping her students active.
“We try to be involved in this event every second year, and this is the third time our school has participated. I guess the main reason that our school decides to participate is the physical education aspect. This is something that we can do to keep the kids active during the winter months when there are generally fewer actives for them to do,” explained Maendel. “But it is also good for our kids to reach out into the larger community and raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.”
Maendel also noted her school raised $2,355 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, but the best part of the event for her was getting to watch all the students jump rope.
Of course, Maendel wasnt the only teacher within the division that enjoyed participating in Jump Rope for Heart this year.
