Around 8,500 runners hit the streets.
A record number of runners hit the streets Sunday for the HSBC Calgary Marathon. Around 8,500 people took part in the event which wound its way through 42 kilometres of streets and pathways. There were major changes to the event this year. They say they’re thrilled with the success and the amount of money raised for charity. “We’re also teamed up with the Team Diabetes,” said Dan Ouimet with the HSBC Calgary Marathon. “Team Diabetes is going to be raising approximately $100,000, so it’s a phenomenal contribution to a great cause.” Organizers say they’ve tried to create a family atmosphere by including a Tim-Bits Marathon for kids, and five kilometre, 10 kilometre, and half-marathon events for adults.
