Tonight marks the launch of Refugee Week in Melbourne with an evening of short films, musical performances and guest speakers at ACMI in Federation Square.
The event shares the stories of people who have fled persecution, and highlights the achievements and contributions of refugees to Australia and the world. This year’s theme is ‘freedom from fear’, and tonight’s program includes short films from local and international artists such as Stories From Near And Far. This local work chronicles the experiences of young asylum-seekers in Australia through their own words and drawings.
The Refugee Week launch at ACMI coincides with the celebration of World Refugee Day on June 20.
