WHO is this grabbing the mic and turning wedding singer It is none other than Rock legend Roger Daltrey belting out a tune at
the star-studded wedding of a North bride and groom. It was the icing on the wedding cake for Angie, 45, of Shieldfield, Newcastle, who has worked in the music industry for 25 years and is a long-standing supporter of the Teenage Cancer Trust, of which Roger is patron. The glitzy guestlist from the music industry included comedian and radio personality Mark Lamarr, DJ Bob Harris, Liz McClarnon of Atomic Kitten, and Iron Maiden managers Andy Taylor and Rod Smallwood, whose 17-year-old son Ben was the wedding photographer. Over 200 guests partied until 5am at a castle outside Bristol and were kept entertained by rock band Thunder, which provided backing for Roger’s guest appearance. “The band did rehearse Substitute with him just in case he was in the mood to sing on the night,” said Angie. “They had played together once before at a charity event. When he got up, everybody went mental. “After he did Substitute, he wanted to do more, but they hadn’t rehearsed any more. I have known Roger for years through the Teenage Cancer Trust. He is like family.”
Simon, of Jesmond, Newcastle, went to Newcastle’s Heaton Manor School with Angie.
