Did you know that there are five rhino species? There’s the Sumatran rhino, the Javan rhino, the Black rhino, the Greater one-horned rhino, and the White rhino. Among these, the Sumatran rhino and the Javan rhino are badly in danger of going extinct with only 34-47 and 76 left in the wild, respectively. The numbers for the other three aren’t looking good too as there are less than 20,000 of them left globally. The biggest threat to these rhinos are habitat loss and poaching, with one rhino getting killed every 16 hours just for its horn. Save the Rhino is an organization fighting hard to stop this majestic animal from going extinct.
Save the Rhino is looking for runners to join represent them in the Great North Run 2024 happening on September 8 at Newcastle, United Kingdom. Proceeds raised by the runners will go to the different programs of the organization — from equipping their ranger teams to protect rhinos from poachers, reducing illegal horn trade, educating local communities on the importance of saving rhinos, and many more.
