LAST weekend’s Sun-Herald City2Surf was a runaway success and now Sydneysiders are invited to swap their jogging shoes for a pair of bike pants
and join our annual Spring Cycle on September 27. Cyclists of all ages and abilities can choose one of four courses, including a ride over the Harbour Bridge with all rides finishing at Sydney Olympic Park. The picturesque 40-kilometre route begins at St Leonards Park, North Sydney. It includes a trip over the bridge, through the historic old town quarter at the Rocks and across the Old Glebe Island Bridge, which will be opened especially for the event. Beginners, families and those preferring a gentle ride can participate in a seven-kilometre ride around Olympic Park. The fitness challenge then continues with a new event, The Sun-Herald Run4Fun. The 10-kilometre road race will be held on Sunday, November 8, and will finish at Sydney Olympic Park. This year a record 75,000 entered the City2Surf, making the 14-kilometre event the world’s biggest running event. A total of 62,626 people crossed the finish line at Bondi Beach, raising more than $2 million. Silvio Del Vecchio was the highest individual fund-raiser, with $30,087 raised for Adults Surviving Child Abuse. The highest fund-raising team earned $120,564 for cancer charity Cure Our Kids. The chimps at Taronga Zoo are getting a new multi-million dollar enclosure and two new friends. But how will the social structure survive
