Actress and singer, Selena Gomez became UNICEF’s youngest ambassador. At theage of 19, her charitable ways are far from slowing down. Ryan Seacrest’s Foundation announced last Friday that Selena Gomez is thefoundation’s first charity ambassador. Seacrest, whose organization buildshospital “media centers” for TV, radio and new media stations that help liftkids’ spirits and uplifts creative outlets, made an announcement on his radioshow last Friday.
“From the beginning, I could tell that Selena really understood our mission,” Seacrest said. “Im so grateful that shes decided to take on this larger rolewith us, joining our efforts to bring hope and spirit to seriously ill andinjured kids. With her as ambassador, we will continue to expand our programsat childrens hospitals throughout the country.; Seacrest said.
Early this year, Selena hosted her second annual charity concert which proceeds to UNICEF, but she doesn’t just advocate from afar. She also took a trip to Ghana to see the programs firsthand, CNN reports.
“It was a really humbling experience for me,” Gomez said to the news source ofher time in Ghana. “I felt a presence from them that was overwhelming, their energy was incredible after all they go through, and they still have a smileat the end of the day.”
And then they asked why giving back means something to her, her answer was simple. “I’m very blessed to have a lot of fans,” Gomez said, “and basically my goalis to use my voice to educate them on all these things.”
