Sleepwalk For Charity 2009: Only Places

Sleepwalk for charity

ONLY a few places remain for this year’s St Andrew’s Hospice Sleepwalk – so pull on your PJs and sign up! As reported, the
charity night walk was launched by the hospice last year and was a resounding success. Almost 500 walkers, wearing just their pyjamas, walked through the night and raised £50,000 for the hospice, which needs £2.8-million a year to keep running. The government funding received by the centre is not enough to cover its costs, and it relies on the generosity of local people to keep going. Fundraiser Angela Greenfield said: “We are hoping to repeat the success of last year. The Sleepwalk is something that a lot of hospices are doing. “The 500 walkers will be going all around Grimsby and Cleethorpes, starting at Freshney Place. Last year the first ladies came in at about 2.45am and the last ones came in at 6.30am – so it’s a through the night walk for some of them. “It’s a really good, fun event and the only thing we ask is that the people taking part raise some money.”
Jane Martin of New Waltham said she is taking part to raise awareness of the hospice’s work.
