This is one of my favourite times of the year.
The weather is warming up and we all get to spend more time outside. It is also the time of year when you find out what types of music your neighbours listen to and they, too, work outside with their tunes to keep them moving. This coming long weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer and as readers of this column know that means that Tunes In The Park can’t be far off. I have had a chance to look at this year’s lineup for the Friday noon-hour concerts and this year is shaping up to be another great one. The full Tunes in the Park lineup will be appearing in this column in early June so keep an eye out for that. One of our local musicians who always draws a great crowd to Tunes in the Park is Rusty James and this Sunday Rusty will have quite the busy day as he performs at two different venues. Rusty will be kicking off his day at 2 p. m. at the Navy Club as he performs for their regular Sunday matinee show until 5 p. m. Following that show, Rusty will be performing at Shooters on Colborne Street beginning at 9:30 p. m. The Shooters show is a way to say thank you to the club and their patrons for all of the support they have shown the MacKids Charity Program. Shooters and its patrons have done their part to support MacKids by becoming the area’s top contributors to the Wrigley MacKids Excel Gum Machines program and so this is Rusty’s way of saying thank you to them for all of their support. The other great thing that happens in Brantford during the warmer weather is that many of our local musicians head out to a variety of events and donate their services to support many different charities and organizations. If your group is hosting such an event, please feel free to contact Glen Silverthorn or myself. The best way to get in touch with us is
That offer also extends to the many local groups who are playing at those events and our local clubs. Please feel free to contact Glen and I to tell us about your band. We would love to hear from you.
