Jennifer Huxley 21st February 2009 PERSONAL gain will be the last thing on Alison Beattie’s mind when she dives into the Glennie Pool
on Sunday morning. Every lap Alison churns out will bring memories of her late husband Dr Bill Beattie flooding back. It is the memory of her husband and the environment in which he passed away that has spurred Alison to ensure others have the same experience. Sunday’s inaugural is entirely Alison’s brainchild, dreamed up to raise money for the Toowoomba Hospice, where Bill passed away last year. &euro&oeligI lost Bill to cancer last year. He spent a few weeks in the Toowoomba Hospice beforehand and they were wonderful to him,&euro Alison said. &euro&oeligThe hospice relies mostly on fundraising and the work of volunteers to keep the facility running.
&euro&oeligI decided to organise the swim-a-thon to help raise some money after everything they do for the community.
