The Right to Housing has been included in various international legal documents such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which was adopted by the UN General Assembly. Sadly however, homelessness has been quickly rising globally in the last 10 years. According to UN-Habitat, “1.6 billion people worldwide live in inadequate housing conditions, with about 15 million forcefully evicted every year.” The age group who’s most at risk of being homeless? Young people. It is for this reason that St Basils was formed.
St Basils is an England-based charity that works with young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Through the various services that they offer, such as accommodation and employability, they aim to give a brighter and more fulfilling future to these young folks. All these programs entail a cost though, so to raise funds, St Basils will be holding The Big Sleepout 2023 at Millennium Point, Curzon St, Birmingham, B4 7XG on December 1-2.
