The Breathe Ride

The Breathe Ride 2009

The American Lung Association in Hawaii (ALAH) is partnering with Hawaii Bicycling League, organizers of the Honolulu Century Ride, to offer The Breathe Ride, a ride-within-a-ride, where participants raise funds and awareness for the ALAH while riding 20 to 100 miles in the Honolulu Century Ride, Hawaii’s largest and oldest cycling event.
This is a family-oriented event in which participants ride at their own pace following Oahus breathtakingly scenic eastern and windward shores. The ride begins and ends at Kapiolani Park, just west of Diamond Head at the end of Waikiki. The course takes riders past the observation point near Diamond Head lighthouse, glides down to Hawaii Kai and meets “Heart Break Hill,” a challenge to riders of all ages and abilities.
Riders then descend Makapu’u Hill past Sea Life Park into Waimanalo’s back roads at the base of the Ko’olau mountain range. Continuing, riders weave through Kailua to Kaneohe Bay. The course travels 50 miles along the coast to Swanzy Beach Park where participants turn around to begin the ride back to Kapiolani Park.
Volunteers are also needed in the weeks prior to the event to post flyers and are needed on the day of the event to staff rest-areas. For more information please visit www.ala-hawaii.org.
Come join us and ride for someone who can’t.
