TWO friends will take part in the Great Scottish Swim next week to raise cash for charity.
Hazel, a swimming instructor at Hamilton’s Water Palace, decided to take up the challenge to raise cash for the charity. She said: “Myself and Kirsty have both had family members affected by cancer so we thought it would be a worthy cause. “Although I work as a swimming instructor I have a strong fear of open waters so I am not looking forward to it at all so it really will be a huge challenge for me.” The Great Scottish Swim is the latest event to be announced as part of a new series of one-mile mass participation televised events taking place throughout the UK. More than 200 people have already signed up to take part in the Great British Swim … but there’s still time for others to dive in. Paul Bush, chief operating officer at EventScotland, said: “Mass participation events play an important role in Scotland’s sporting calendar and, as the first event of its kind to take place in Scotland, the Great Scottish Swim is guaranteed to raise the profile of swimming in Scotland.”
