TUSCALOOSA Martha Cook, director of the Rise School, expects long lines of bargain-hunters at the annual Buy For Rise sale Friday and Saturday.
Dozens of local shops donate merchandise to the school, which then sells those items to the community at 75 percent off the original price. “And these are the high-end shops of Tuscaloosa,” she said. This year, 40 local merchants have donated hundreds of items including clothing for men, women and children, gifts, jewelry, linens, coffee products, furniture and more. “We go around on Thursday with a moving van and we pick it up and we have to make several trips,” Cook said. “We put it in the commons of the school and it is just packed full of merchandise.”
From 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, the school will host a preview party. Tickets will be $15 at the door or $10 in advance and will be available at the school or participating merchants.
