Wales News Cowan Will Be Locked Up 2009: Involved Outspoken

Wales News Cowan will be locked up

Get involved OUTSPOKEN independent Cardiff councillor Jayne Cowan is going to be locked up in the cells at the city’s new police headquarters in
Cardiff Bay. The Rhiwbina member, who has been a thorn in the side of the council’s executive, is raising money for charity by surrendering her liberty for 12 hours. She has to raise &pound500 for the police’s Youth Trust charity and will donate anything above this to the George Thomas cancer hospice. Coun Cowan said: “It’s not going to be easy at all. They handcuff you and treat you like a real prisoner. “I’m going to be taken away from my BlackBerry, I don’t know how I’m going to cope.” The charity event on September 5 will see 34 “inmates” fingerprinted, photographed and locked up like real suspects.
It is aimed at using the cells to raise money for charity before they are put into use for real later this year.
