Shuttle to Gurnet Light DUXBURY &ndash Saturday, May 23, take a trip to the historic Gurnet Point Light and Fort Andrews (known as Fort
Gurnet during the Revolutionary War) as well as the historic Coast Guard Life Saving Station, five miles out to the end of Gurnet Point. Learn about the history of these two structures, climb to the top of Gurnet Light and enjoy the vista of Massachusetts Bay. Go back in time and tour the Life Saving Station with the rescue boat and all the equipment in place as it was in 1960. Relive the history of these two important historic edifices. Free shuttles will leave the Duxbury Bay Maritime School at 457 Washington St. in Duxbury (781-934-7555) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to take you out to the Gurnet. Stay as long as you like and then return to the maritime school. This event is being held in conjunction with the Opening of the Bay. PLYMOUTH &ndash The next GATRA Consumer Advisory Committee meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, at the Council on Aging on the lower level of 10 Cordage Park Circle. PLYMOUTH &ndash Golfers are invited to play in the third annual “Fund Fore the Needy” golf tournament at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21, at Waverly Oaks Golf Club in Plymouth. This is one of the final events to be held at Waverly Oaks, located at 444 Long Pond Road. The cost for the tournament includes a round of golf, a cart, a gift and dinner. Team or individual reservations are being accepted. The tournament will feature a scramble format with a shotgun start scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the first, second and last place teams, as well as closest-to-the-pin, longest drive and hole-in-one. The evening’s activities will include a helicopter ball drop, and silent and live auctions during dinner. The cost for the event is $560 per pre-arranged foursome or $150 for individuals. The cost for dinner only is $35 per person. The fund for the needy provides emergency assistance to residents of the South Plymouth area. This nonprofit charity supports a food pantry, supplies critical utility and medical funds, and assists with emergency housing for those facing financial difficulties. The fund also prepares holiday dinner baskets twice a year. The fund does not discriminate based on race, sex, ethnic or religious affiliation and is administered by St. Bonaventure Parish in Manomet, but its finances are maintained separately. This is the sole fundraising event of the fund. PLYMOUTH &ndash The Plymouth Area League of Women Voters will celebrates its 50th anniversary Thursday, May 21, at Stoneforge Restaurant in Plymouth. Current and former Leaguers are invited. Diane Jeffrey, president of the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts, will be the keynote speaker. One highlight of the evening will be a re-enactment of the “My Fair Lady Leaguer” musical skit first introduced five decades ago when the League of Women Voters organized in Plymouth. PLYMOUTH &ndash The town of Plymouth has received a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection to provide 100 SkyJuice rain barrels to Plymouth residents at the discounted price of $65, almost 40 percent off the retail price of $125. The town has teamed with SkyJuice New England to offer these rain barrels to help residents conserve water, save money and reduce stormwater run-off. Once the 100 DEP rain barrels are sold, residents may purchase the SkyJuice Rain Barrels for $75. SkyJuice rain barrels are made from 60-gallon recycled food grade barrels and are available in four colors: terra cotta, grey, black and blue. The town is accepting orders for rain barrels through Thursday, May 21, and has scheduled a rain barrel pickup day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 30 at Stephens Field. PLYMOUTH &ndash Plymouth residents are urged to submit short visual productions for a new online festival. Veteran Hollywood film and television producer Don Daniel is the major force behind the launch of the online “Just a Minute Festival.” People of all ages are urged to upload productions to www.JustAMinute.tv. There is no entry fee and there will be cash and other prizes for the winner. The festival celebrates short visual presentations created or shot in any format: film, video, animation, flash, machinima, phone, etc. The only requirement is the entry must be one minute or less. The “links” section of the Web site offers examples of one-minute films from all over the world. The entry deadline is Oct. 1. Web site viewers will conduct the judging &ndash beginning Sept. 6. Entries will be rated on a scale of 1-5. Voting ends Dec. 1 and the entry with the highest number of votes will be declared the winner.
