World Firefighter Games in Liverpool boost charity funds

Each of the seven charities received cheques for &pound13,500 at an event held at the Andrew Collinge Salon in Liverpool city centre.
Charities receiving a boost were: The Community Foundation for Merseyside, The Firefighters’ Charity, The Roy Castle Foundation, The Marina Dalglish Cancer Fund, The Lord Mayor’s Appeal, The Burns Charity and Fire Support Network. Tony McGuirk, Merseyside chief fire officer, said: “The Games were a great sporting and cultural success with more than 3,000 firefighters from 40 countries taking part. Andrew Collinge said: “We are delighted that we have been able to support the World Firefighter Games in various ways and what a fantastic amount raised for the various charities. “To have the Games take place in Liverpool during our European Capital of Culture Year was a highlight on the city’s cultural calendar and taking part in the Chief’s Challenge was an experience I won’t forget.” HUNDREDS of Merseyside’s part-time soldiers face the axe in a shake-up designed to make the Territorial Army better prepared for war.
