PORT CANAVERAL — Spectators were lining up early Monday afternoon at Jetty Park in Cape Canaveral to watch the Freedom of the Seas and
its 3,900 passengers sail to the western Caribbean later today. Port Canaveral is hosting what it’s calling a “Sail-A-Bration” in honor of the arrival of the Freedom of the Seas, which will now be home-ported here. The event at Jetty Park takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. During the Sail-A-Bration, admission to the park is free. Organizers are asking attendees to bring a non-perishable food item for charity. Passengers on the Freedom of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, began boarding Monday morning just a few hours after the ship docked at Port Canaveral. Guest were greeted with glasses of champagne and many of them wasted little time checking out the ship’s many amenities. “I thought it was a city,” said Issie Bell-Yovich, a West Melbourne resident who was taking a honeymoon cruise with her husband, George Yovich.
