A local fashion institution has gone out in style.
Yolanda’s Bridal Salon on Waverley Oaks Road opened its doors for the last time Saturday. Yolanda Cellucci, the store’s founder and sole proprietor for over 40 years, said business is booming and closing her shop has nothing to do with the struggling economy. “I’ll be 75 years old this year,” Cellucci said Saturday, “and I’d like to be able to devote more time to my family, my three grandchildren, and some personal pursuits.” In July, Cellucci accepted an offer from local developer Duffy Properties to buy the building where her bridal shop has been located since 1973. Cellucci’s two daughters, Sondra and Linda, have both followed in their mother’s footsteps, entering the fashion business, respectively, one as a designer and one as a model. “We have a passion for fashion.” Cellucci quipped.
Cellucci started by selling wigs out of the trunk of her car, a business she began after she said she lost some of her own hair as a result of nerves.
