Young guest of honour raises 194163860k at charity event

Tilly, aged nine, from Cheddleton, was among the guests of honour at the annual Caudwell Ball, which raises money for disabled children across the
UK. The night raised a total of £1.7 million to fund equipment, therapy and treatment for disabled children. The event was re-named in Tilly’s honour after her fund-raising efforts at last year’s ball drummed up £330,000. Tilly, left, who suffers from muscle wasting disease, spinal muscular atrophy, was given a wheelchair by the Stoke-based charity and knows the freedom it can bring. Mother Jackie Griffiths said: “We left the ball because the girls had to be back at school the next day. “We did not realise how much had been raised until the next day. “Tilly gave a little speech and the money started coming in. She was very brave and worked at what she wanted to say.”
A businessman from London bid for the artwork at the event, held at Battersea Evolution arena, London, on the proviso it was signed by the sisters, who are pupils at St Edward’s Junior High.
