ATLANTIC CITY – For all the talk about thriftiness and frugality during the recession, it seems there is one thing that has not yet been consigned to the bargain basement: the wedding. Lavish weddings with a starting price of about $50,000 will be the centerpiece of an upscale special-events center jutting hundreds of feet out over the ocean. “Weddings and other milestone events are still an important time for families and communities. People are still willing to spend money on that,” said Wesley Adams, marketing director of The Icon Group. The Icon Group is transforming 10,000 square feet of space at the top of The Pier at Caesars shopping mall into One Atlantic, a multimillion-dollar project that is one of the few new attractions under construction in recession-hobbled Atlantic City. More than just a setting for weddings, One Atlantic will feature a stylish banquet hall and elegant lobby for receptions, corporate galas, charity events, bar/bat mitzvahs and other social gatherings.
Panoramic views of the ocean, beaches and Atlantic City’s casino-dominated skyline unfold from windows that ring the banquet hall. Even the bathrooms will overlook the ocean. Guests will also be able to step outside onto a terrace decorated with plants and live bamboo in a garden-party atmosphere.
