Citizen Patriot As a steady snow fell Saturday, Brigitte Goble grabbed her golf clubs and headed out onto the green for charity. “It’s impossible to swing with all these clothes on,” said the Concord resident, after she took her first swing of the day. “I couldn’t see anything with all this snow.” Goble was among about 150 participants who braved wintry conditions and played in the Jackson Kiwanis Club’s 23rd annual Chili Golf Classic on Saturday. The event took place at Hankerd Hills Golf Course in Pleasant Lake. Participants played golf on a special course with yellow street hockey balls. Players paid $20 for 9 holes or $25 for 18 holes. Saturday’s event raised about $3,200, which will go toward children-focused programs throughout Jackson County. Young children are the club’s first priority. First-time participant Keith Irestone of Arizona was among those who played. He was visiting family in Jackson and his sister Mardi Adams talked him into coming to the event.
“I figured it would be something different for him to do,” Adams said. Irestone agreed, saying, “this is definitely interesting.”
