Adrenaline Fix for a Cause: Protect Orangutans, Their Forests, and Their Future

Jump for the future of orangutans.

Did you know that orangutans are the largest tree-dwelling mammals? In the Malay language, their name means “man of the forest,” which is quite appropriate as orangutans actually share 96.4% of the same DNA as humans. They share so many characteristics with people and yet, it’s people that’s causing their rapid decline in numbers. Currently, there are less than 80,000 Bornean orangutans, less than 15,000 Sumatran, and less than 1000 Tapanuli orangutans left worldwide. If humans won’t stop interfering with rainforests and engaging in illegal wildlife trade, orangutans would cease to exist in the next few years. This is what the Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS) is trying to address.

SOS’ mission is “Protecting orangutans, their forests and their future.” To help them achieve this, they’ll hold a number of fundraising events all throughout the year. One of which is the 160ft Bungee Jump happening on July 6 at Coram’s Fields, London.
