dashing for the line after 26 gruelling miles, I just failed to haul back and his likely lads. Then I woke up. It was 5.30am on the morning of the race. I had slept well – too well obviously. This was to be my big day. A year ago I was a cancer victim. I could not walk or eat. My body wanted to die. I would not let it. Today was my chance to tell to my body it was fine. I had a marathon ahead of me and felt in good form.
We bounded down to Barnes, in south west London, in the car – we live a mile away from the station, but I did not want to chance wasting any energy. I thought I looked cool in my new Adidas kit.
