Candlelight skate set for the Oval

The Ontario Speed Skating Oval (OSSO) will hold a candlelight skate this evening, starting at 6 p.
m. The public is welcome to bring their own hockey and figure skates and skate among hundreds of twinkling candles nestled in the snow around the track. “This was the most talked about event last winter and we are thrilled to offer it again this year. We are encouraging the community to get out and celebrate the magic and beauty of winter,” states Heather Watson, project developer 652-7839 for OSSO. jhedwards There is no cost o participate, however, organizers are encouraging donations to help build the refrigerated track. In addition to skating, there will be hamburgers, hotdogs and hot chocolate for sale. The site has a small building and there will also be warming tents. Once fully developed, the Ontario Speed Skating Oval will provide artificial ice from November through until March. In spring and summer months the OSSO will offer other programs such as in-line skating.
The OSSO promotes healthy and active lifestyles to those within the region and will provide opportunities for the community to be involved through volunteering and community partnerships. Estimated to have more than $14 million in annual visitor spending the facility will be the anchor recreation facility for sports in the Kawarthas.
