THERE is a feast of four-legged fun in store for crowds at Southport’s Charity Fun Fest next month.
A collection of clever canines will showcase their unique entertainment, which includes back walking, body weaving, comedy routines and fire jumps. Scott Burtoft, the team’s commentator, said: “We are entertainers with dogs. We like to give people information about dogs but we also like to do the unexpected.” One of the team’s favourite routines features a motorcycle chase, where highly trained manwork dogs (the ‘goodies’) pursue and apprehend the armed ‘baddies’. Scott said: “We like to grab the audience’s attention. We show different breeds, rather than just the well-known ones. We’ve got pugs, red setters, dalmatians you name it, we’ve got it.” The show will also feature an appearance from Hank, the goal-keeping dog, who famously enjoyed a kickabout with Liverpool FC striker Fernando Torres when he visited the West Lancs Canine Centre with a Spanish film crew last year. Scott said: “Torres is a really nice guy. He must have spent a good 20-25 minutes after the shoot signing autographs and posing for photos with the kids. It was good fun.”
Southport’s Charity Fun Fest raises money for local causes by hosting an array of family entertainment over two days.
