, a chain of automotive collision repair centers, will attempt to break a Guinness World Record June 20 for the most cars washed at
multiple locations, the company announced. More than 200 repair locations across North America will attempt to wash more than 4,000 vehicles during an eight-hour period. U.S. motorists can participate for $10 and Canadian drivers for $5, with proceeds going to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the United States and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Canada, as well as other locally selected organizations. CARSTAR has held its Soaps It Up! carwash charity event for five years, although this will be the first time U.S. stores have participated. Based on photos from past events, it appears that cars were washed in the parking lots of participating locations. This year, 3M Car Care will provide carwash soap, glass cleaner, tire cleaner and microfiber drying cloths. A media request for information on what environmental safeguards CARSTAR will implement to minimize impact from water consumption, chemicals and wastewater runoff has not been returned. “We are hoping to set the Guinness World Record with our effort,” said Dick Cross, chairman and CEO of CARSTAR in the U.S. “Our stores probably wash more vehicles on a daily basis as they repair consumers’ cars than anyone else in North America, so we’d love to have bragging rights to the world record.” Based on the expected number of participating locations, CARSTAR will have to average only 20 cars per location, or 2.5 per hour, to break the world record.
The collision repair chain has more than 400 locally owned and operated locations in North America.
