Cash rolls in after Birmingham Mails fun run

Get involved More than 1,800 people pounded the pavements between Perry Park and Alexander Stadium last Sunday to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support
and the Birmingham Mail Charity Trust. Stilt walkers, leprechauns and bhangra drummers lined up alongside Midlands celebrities Joanne Malin, triple jump champion Ashia Hansen and marathon hero Blind Dave Heeley to take part in this year’s run. Organisers said today they are well on their way to reaching their &pound100,000 target with about &pound15,000 already raised through runners’ registration fees. It is hoped that those who ran, jogged or walked the 5km course will help to top last year’s &pound78,000 fundraising total. “We all know someone, and that extra effort will really help us beat last year’s total of &pound78,000 and who knows reach that &pound100,000!” An estimated 882 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer every day and two million people are now living with or beyond cancer. Macmillan provides practical emotional and support to cancer patients and their families as well as funding nurses and other specialist health care professionals.
A two-night stay in Dublin for two people is also up for grabs for the individual who raises the most money.
