Charity Abseil 2009: Brave Fundraisers

Charity abseil

BRAVE fundraisers took a leap of faith when they abseiled down a city department store to raise money for a national charity.
More than 40 people took part in the event, amazing shoppers as they abseiled off the side of the House of Fraser building in the city centre. And for local man Ian Bullen the event held an extra importance. “Ian was a victim of a mugging in Plymouth about four years ago,” said Carole Arnold community fund raiser for the RBL in Devon. “He is now paralysed from the neck down and if it hadn’t been for the Royal British Legion, he would still be fighting for a motorised wheelchair. “We supplied that wheelchair and have helped in other ways. The Legion will continue to help him for as long he needs us. Ian felt the need to repay us in some way, so took part in a parachute jump last year raising £1600.
“After Ian and I had spoken about this, he still wanted to do something else and an abseil was suggested.”
