“We raised $27,000.
It’s the best year so far,” said Raney, event chairwoman and member of the Health Services Auxiliary, who presented a check to Brig. Gen. Donald Bradshaw, Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center commanding general, and to house manager Francisco Cruz Jr. May 18. The previous high for the fundraiser was $20,000. Raney and her committee members made room for as many golfers as possible, but after 174 showed up to play, they had to turn away others. Bradshaw said the success of the tournament was due to many people banding together. Not only were the HAS volunteers instrumental in its success, but the employees of Gordon Lakes Golf Courses as well as members of the community had a role. Cruz said they had taken a survey of the golfers to find out if the golfers would like to have the tournament at a different location, but the golfers prefer Gordon Lakes. “The golf course staff makes this event go smoothly,” he said. “They handle all the golf-specific things such as the tallies,” said Raney. The Fisher House is a “home away from home” for the Families of service members receiving inpatient treatment at Eisenhower Army Medical Center and area hospitals. Families stay at the Fisher House at no cost.
“This definitely helps us out, but we still need more. This is already gone,” said Cruz of the check.
