Cheque39ing in on AIDS Calgary’s new campaign

Share: Days after announcing tough economic times had forced AIDS Calgary to cancel its annual fundraising gala, the charity has kicked off a new
campaign with a $50,000 donation. AIDS Calgary yesterday launched its new fundraising campaign, Everyone, Everywhere, Everyday, which aims to raise $1 million in community donations within the next two years. The new fundraising strategy replaces the Calgary Cares gala, which was dropped because the high overhead of putting on the complex event was too great a money-losing risk, said spokeswoman Amanda Chapman. “This campaign is basically just AIDS Calgary shifting its focus,” she said. Planning the annual 14-year gala also consumed much of the staff’s time, which means they now have more energy to devote to their programs and clients, said Chapman. Downtown club Twisted Element hosted last night’s campaign kickoff, with co-owners R.J. Fafard and Cliff Andrews presenting AIDS Calgary with a $50,000 cheque.
The timing of the new campaign coincided with the duos’ desire to make a difference in Calgary, said Chapman.
