THE people of Gloucestershire are being called on to show their support for troops injured on the frontline.
Gloucester Cathedral is to host a concert to raise cash for men and women living with the physical and mental scars of serving their country. It is hoped the October 7 event, which is being backed by The Citizen and its sister paper, the Gloucestershire Echo, will raise £10,000 for the charity Help for Heroes. Up to 900 people are hoped to attend the evening, which will feature the Band of the Gloucestershire Constabulary, Churchdown Choral Society, Churchdown Male Voice Choir, Cotswold Male Voice Choir and soloists William Armiger and Martin Dear. County dignitaries and prestigious military figures have already pledged to be there on the day. Among them are Lord Lieutenant Henry Elwes and his wife Carolyn, Colonel Tim Merrett from the Royal British Legion and Major General Patrick Cordingley, who led the 7th Armoured Brigade, The Desert Rats, in the first Gulf War and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his bravery and leadership. It is also hoped that soldiers from 1 Rifles and 6 Rifles will attend.
Pat Grant-Hudson, who is chairman of Hucclecote Parish Council, came up with the idea of holding a fundraising event for the charity.
