CRUISER CYCLIST COLLIDE PROMPTING INVESTIGATION

CRUISER, CYCLIST COLLIDE PROMPTING INVESTIGATION A city police cruiser and a cyclist collided around 12:30 a.
m. yesterday at the corner of King and Rubidge streets, prompting the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to get involved. The male cyclist was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre with serious injuries but was in stable condition, city police states in a release. Police said the intersection was re-opened at 7:30 a. m., yesterday. They said they couldn’t answer any further questions because the investigation is in the hands of the SIU. The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries (including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police. In a release, the SIU said they were contacted at 12:47 a. m.
Four investigators and two forensic identification investigators have been sent to Peterborough, the SIU states. The SIU is appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident to contact them at 416-622-0748 or 1-800-787-8529.
