Down Syndrome summer school gets boost

Local teacher Paula Walker told the crowd that when it comes to children with autism or Down syndrome “you can never ever underestimate what
they’re capable of.†The show, organized by Move ‘N Grooove Dance Studio, was a fundraiser for the Down Syndrome Association of Peterborough’s summer school. Down syndrome association executive director Deb Reid didn’t have the final count last night but said she expected the event had raised roughly $3,000. About 130 people were at the show. Reid said Julie Fallis, Move ‘N Grooove’s executive director, wanted to showcase local talent and raise money for a local charity and chose the Down syndrome association. “It has been a wonderful experience to work with Julie,†Reid said. Reid said Fallis has friends and patrons who have Down syndrome and thought it would be a good fit.
The performers, which included members of local dance groups as well as local musicians Beau Dixon and Victoria Pyle, donated their time, Reid said.
