Drumlanrig sporting dinner raises charity cash

A CHARITY sporting dinner at Drumlanrig Castle was attended by a host of Scottish celebrities and raised more than &pound10,000 in the process.
Over 250 people attended the spectacular event which was organised by Thornhill and District Rotary Club in partnership with the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry and his estate staff. A highlight of the event was a champagne reception personally hosted by the duke, who also greeted guests on their arrival at the castle. The event was chaired by TV sports personality Dougie Donnelly who introduced the speakers for the evening including former sprinter and raconteur George McNeil former Scotland manager Craig Brown and comedian Andy Cameron. A very successful auction was hosted by West Sound presenter and former auctioneer Tommy Jardine, proceeds of which will be donated to Maggie’s Cancer Centres. Trevor Dykes, President of Thornhill and District Rotary club and chair of the organising committee said: “This really was a special event. “I am most grateful to my organising committee for all their hard work in putting the event together. “Nancy Gallacher of Sanquhar-based Knockenhair Caterers pulled out all the stops to provide us with a splendid meal.
“I know from the calls and texts I have received that all those who were there had a most enjoyable evening.
