• Staff writer • August 30, 2009 FAIRPORT &mdash Sitting on a curb and taking a bite of her carrot dog, Nancy Goyette-Duncan bobbed to the beat of a teenage garage band on Saturday. As a Fairport resident, she came to support an annual festival that combines live national and local musical acts with 23 village cuisine options, making the event what organizers call a festival fusion. Early inclement weather threatened to put a wet blanket over the fifth annual Fairport Music & Food Festival along Liftbridge Lane in the Erie Canal area. But skies cleared about 1:30p.m., and all the musical acts were able to perform under a canopy. “There aren’t many festivals where you can see younger kids playing their own music, and you’re not going to see them perform in a bar, so this is a good opportunity for everyone to hear them,” said Goyette-Duncan, who was enjoying one of the festival’s delicacies &mdash a grilled carrot with all the fixings on a hot dog bun. “I’m here hoping to hear some classic rock, but everything sounds pretty good so far,” said Eder, an Irondequoit resident. The family-oriented event featured a “taste of Fairport,” offering area culinary specialties for sale.
The festival has raised $146,250 in its first four years for the Golisano Children’s Hospital.
