Firemans Fete A Roaring Success 2009: Dunking Firemen

Firemans Fete a roaring success

DUNKING firemen in freezing cold water was one of the traditional highlights of the annual Fireman’s Fete.
As reported, the fete – at Peaks Lane Fire Station, Grimsby – is set to have raised thousands of pounds for The Firefighters Charity, which helps injured firefighters and the families of firefighters who have lost their lives. Firefighters get a dunking during the annual Fireman’s Fete. And you can view all the fun on video here on This Is Grimsby today. Nigel Smith, crew manager at Peaks Lane Fire Station and organiser of the event, said: “It has been running for 40 years, which most people don’t realise. It raises money for the charity, which needs £9-million every year and receives no government funding at all. “It is events like this which they rely on to raise money.” Five-year-old Joshua Hill, from Grimsby, summed up the event by telling us: “I like firemen because they put out fires.”
