Pensacola, a couple big soccer events this week, and a former prep soccer star settles in at South Alabama. The green flag on a new racing season at Five Flags Speedway won’t drop until March 20, but there’s already a potential boost for the track’s signature event. Kevin Harvick, the 2007 Daytona 500 winner and this year’s Bud Shootout winner, has said he will be in Pensacola to compete in the 2009 Snowball Derby in December. Harvick told Speed51.com he has a new straight-rail chassis for a Super Late Model car he’ll race at Five Flags. “We pick one race a year,” Harvick said. “Last year we did the Oxford 250 (which he won) and this year we want to do the Snowball Derby.” Also, NASCAR megastar Kyle Busch has expressed interest in returning, possibly as a competitor. A car Busch owned won the 2008 Snowball Derby but was disqualified in post-race inspection for having fan blowers installed to cool the tires.
