Get involved A WOMAN is travelling from Hollywood to South Wales to take part in a gruelling charity bike ride in memory of a
close friend who died from cancer. Rene Merideth, 35, from Los Angeles, could not even ride a bike until this year. When friend Kevin Hatch was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma at 35, Rene decided to raise money for cancer sufferers. But reaching the finish line on June 14 will now be especially poignant for Rene. She and Kevin had originally planned to fly to Wales together, so he could cheer her on from the sidelines during the cycling event. But Kevin’s condition deteriorated sooner than expected and he passed away on April 24.
“Losing Kevin so quickly has made me even more determined to complete the event,” said Rene, who raised the money for her flight by holding a silent auction and a “Dinner and a Show” fundraising night.
