Croucher, a Royal Marine reservist from Birmingham, was decorated for gallantry after he threw himself on a Taliban booby-trapped grenade in the Helmand province
of Afghanistan last year. Croucher has been actively involved in helping Yardley & District prepare for the big dau which includes two matches between the club and Royal Marines teams. &euro&oeligIt looks like it’s going to be a large event raising in excess of 20,000 for Help for Heroes,&euro Croucher said. &euro&oeligTo me Help for Heroes is a very important charity, our men and women who serve the country deserve the right to receive the best treatment and welfare for what they have sacrificed. &euro&oelig I’m happy to be involved in raising money for Help for Heroes in all kinds of ways and a charity rugby match like this is going to be a great event with lots happening.&euro Local radio station BRMB will be at Cole Hall Lane throughout the afternoon conducting a charity auction for Help for Heroes. Yardley & District are contacting clubs and organisations locally and nationally for prizes for prizes for the auction and raffle. The Yardley & District fund-raising day will strengthen the links between rugby and Help for Heroes.
Last September two teams of rugby legends, including current England manager Martin Johnson and Lawrence Dallaglio, and servicemen played in front of more than 52,000 at Twickenham in a fund-raising match for the charity.
