Comfortable…Bondi Vet’s Chris Brown has participated in the past three Sun-Herald City2Surf events.
Photo: Janie Barrett READY, set, go! Australia’s biggest and best fun run, The Sun-Herald City2Surf, is on again and you can join in all the colour, excitement and community spirit. With a record 70,000-plus people tipped to take part in the 39th annual event on Sunday, August 9, now is the time to register at www.city2surf.com.au. Taking on the challenge of the 14-kilometre run, jog or walk from historic Hyde Park to Bondi Beach is a City2Surf tradition and it can be even more rewarding by joining the new Herald Heroes online fund-raising initiative. Chris Brown, the Bondi Vet star who has run the past three years, said the day was as much a social as a sporting event. "There’s no other 14-kilometre run where you don’t notice the pain as much as on the City2Surf.” After last year’s run raised $1.25 million for charity, the City2Surf is aiming – with the help of Herald Heroes and their supporters – to go higher in 2009. Anyone can join in the fun of the City2Surf, junior or senior, front of the pack or back of the back some even don a gorilla suit or ballerina tutu to add some fancy-dress flair.
Brown said the key was to pick a costume that would (comfortably) last the distance, after learning the hard way by running in long socks and stubbies in his first year.
