Ron Christman of Kingwood was part of the winning team, along with Houston pro Chris Stroud, in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am last
weekend. Christman, chairman of nGenera Corp., contributed 15 of the 23-under-par in the handicap best-ball format. Stroud, who starred at Lamar University, was 8 under in the rain-shortened 54-hole PGA Tour event to share sixth place. “As I walked down on our final hole, I looked at the scoreboard and I looked at the course, and I started crying,” said the 69-year-old Christman. “Pebble Beach is such a special place.” It’s an accomplishment just to make the cut in the pro-am at the AT&T. Only 25 of the 180 teams make the cut. In his 10th appearance in the pro-am, Christman had made the cut once previously, finishing seventh with Mike Heinen as his partner. “It’s a tournament every amateur in the world wants to play in, and it’s hard to get in,” said Christman, who drew Stroud in a random draw. “I was lucky to get a hot player. He’s on the rise.” Christman is a member of Deerwood Club and has an 18 handicap. The Dave Marr Cup benefiting the Ronald McDonald House will be held March 7 at River Ridge Golf Club with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
It’s a two-person best-ball followed by a full handicap shootout. There is a cocktail reception March 6.
