Green Light For Kernow Live 2009: Oneday Music

Green light for Kernow Live

The one-day music festival is now part of Kernow Live, which has been formed to celebrate Cornwall’s youth culture and will celebrate arts, sports,
play and youth health. The venue is Boscawen Park and the festival will take place from Sunday, August 2, to Wednesday, August 5. Kernow Live will combine the already established family festival Gig on the Green with the very popular National Playday along with a programme of youth activities and arts all brought together in a colourful tented space within Boscawen Park. Throughout the four days Kernow Live will present a festival combining Swamp Circus with various other youth arts groups and community support groups, who will work together to provide a huge range of exciting, new and familiar activities, workshops, performances and stalls for the benefit and enjoyment of all young people and families. The National Playday will host all its regular features within the park and will be enhanced by the play, and active fun facilities housed in the Big Top. “Last year Rosie and The Goldbug and Glass Shark among many others gave great performances and it introduced a lot of people to the prepubescent AC/DC that is the marvellous Ice Cold Idiots. “Among those who will be playing this year are Auction For The Promise Club, who just a week later will be playing to thousands at the Relentless Boardmasters festival, the amazing patrickjamespearson who I’m sure is destined for big things, All The Fires who are akin to a female-fronted Fleet Foxes, Cornish favourites My Elvis Blackout and Downtown Riots &ndash a bit of raucous riffing on a summer’s day never hurt anyone. Throw in the riotous Balkan folk jazz punk sounds of Mr Julian Gaskell and his Ragged Trousered Philanthropists and you have a decent day’s music.”
The Gig on the Green is a charity event and in the past has raised a considerable amount of money for its chosen charities.
