A TAXI driver who rescued a woman whose car had plunged into a pond has been nominated for a prestigious bravery award.
Caroline Saunders, 28, was dragged out of her upturned car by James Brown, after she crashed into the icy water in Bishop Burton. Mr Brown, 41, of Beverley, waded into the pond and smashed the car window to free her, after spotting headlights shining through the water on February 10. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has nominated Mr Brown for a Spirit Of Fire award. The awards ceremony is held annually by The Firefighters’ Charity and acknowledges acts of bravery and achievement by firefighters and members of the public. Mr Brown has been nominated for the Fire Services’ Public Adult Hero award, given to a member of the public “who has shown great bravery and dedication when confronted with a fire and rescue situation”.
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Glenn Ramsden said: “It’s a prestigious event and we are very hopeful he will get through.
