Historical Society of Topsail Island Moores Creek National Park is the program for the May 14 meeting of the Historical Society of Topsail Island. The battle at Moore’s Creek was the first decisive Patriot victory in the Revolutionary War! Tyrone Brandyburg of the National Park Service will be discussing both the history that makes Mores Creek a special attraction in Southeastern North Carolina and future plans for development. He will be accompanied by the President of the Moores Creek Friends support group who will share ideas of what we can do to use Moores Creek National Park as a tourist draw to boost our local economy. Historical Society members and general public are invited to the luncheon meeting. The menu will be fried chicken, potato salad, baked beans and dessert. Luncheons are $9 (seniors pay $8). The meeting starts at 11:30 a.m. and will be at the Assembly Building in Topsail Beach. Hampstead Lions Dinner Meeting
The Hampstead Lions Club will be holding an informational dinner and club meeting at the Bagel Basket in Hampstead on Hwy 17 at 6:30 p.m., May 7, 2009. The club is inviting community members to join them for dinner. Anyone wishing to attend should call Ducky Paris at 270-8792 so a reservation may be made for you. Dinner will be a lasagna meal for $8 per person, which includes tax and gratuity. Reservations are a must.
