The move has put the City of Aberdeen Baker Hughes 10k run in doubt. The event has been run every year since 1987 and the course is based around Aberdeen city’s beach and harbour area. It attracts all types of entries, from serious runners who are in it to win, to people raising money for charity as well as the people who want to use the event as motivation to get fit. Council bosses believe that they may not have enough staff to organise the run this year. Councillor Jennifer Stewart, lead councillor for sport, told the Aberdeen Evening Express: “I am still working hard to ensure the event goes ahead. “Certainly from speaking to officers, it is not a definite no. There is a meeting on Thursday to discuss it. It would make it difficult to run without other partners.”
An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said that a change in the leisure and sports department had led to a decrease in staff.
