ONE OF the country’s leading choirs is set to visit Tonbridge for a charity event next month.
The Croydon Male Voice Choir will perform at Tonbridge School Chapel, in the High Street, on March 6. He added: “We haven’t held any events over here recently and we chose Tonbridge School because it has an active parents’ arts association and an active arts programme for the population at large.” The school is financing most of the costs of the show, while builders R Durtnell and Sons Ltd and law firm Warners Solicitors have agreed to make a contribution. Directed by Richard Hoyle, with Arnfinn Tobiassen as pianist and Tomos Lavery as baritone soloist, the concert will include sea shanties, hymns, folk songs and American spirituals. With 50 members, the group has been in existence for more than 30 years and has been described as one of the top choirs in the country. “I understand they are very good,” Mr Sturcke said. “They have a very wide-ranging repertoire, including sea shanties and American melodies.” The trust helps 14 to 30-year-olds who have struggled in school, those who have been in care, have been jobless for a long time or have been in trouble with the law.
Among other programmes, it grants loans for young people aged 18 to 30 to start their own businesses, providing ongoing support to the enterprises.
