Browne only turned 50 a week ago, and the Champions Tour rookie shot a 4-under 67, placing him atop the leaderboard alongside Lonnie Nielsen
and Bruce Vaughan. A further 11 players are only one shot off the lead, including Nick Price, Fred Funk and Tom Kite. “To me, it’s starting over again. But that’s cool. That’s kind of fresh,” said Browne, a three-time winner on the PGA tour. “It’s going to be great.”
Nielsen, meanwhile, is no stranger to holding the first-round lead at this tournament – the Iowa native was in the same position last year, but his challenge disintegrated over the weekend. Nielsen’s determined to be more focused this time around, though.
