Party Girls Teaming Up For Second Fundraising Event 2009: Being Friends

Party girls teaming up for second fundraising event

BEING friends for more than 20 years means Allison Richards and Kay Barber have a lot of things in common.
Unfortunately for the Derby mums, one of those things is the fact that Allison’s father and Kay’s step-father suffer from a rare but devastating disease. Rather than let it get them down, however, they decided that being positive was the only option and organised a party to raise money for the Derbyshire branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. And the live music night was such a success, raising more than £1,400 for the charity, that Allison and Kay plan to hold another one next year. “It was hard work, but to be honest we both really enjoyed it,” said Kay, whose stepfather, Gordon Pykett, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease three years ago. “It was a great night, everyone there said they had a good time. “The Motor Neurone Disease Association is a good cause and people affected can always go there for information.”
The disease is progressive neurodegenerative and attacks the upper and lower motor neurones.
